Analysis Of The Book White Teeth - 973 Words

This paper is mostly going to focus on the two main couples that we follow throughout the book, White Teeth. The first couple, is Archie and Clara, the second couple is Samad and Alsana. Throughout the book we get flashbacks at the lives of the characters. There are four concepts I cover in this paper, how communication, race, ethnicity, and differences between couples effects their marriages. One of the first concepts I found from the textbook that was a large part of the plot line was the interracial and interethnic marriage. Interethnic marriage is where spouses have different cultural backgrounds. (Seccombe 2012). This concept can be difficult because if one spouse comes from a different culture, then they can have different ways of communication or ideas about raising children. The interracial marriage is where the spouses are of a different race. (Seccombe 2012). This interracial and interethnic marriage, has more to do with Archie and Clara than Samad and Alsana. Archie and C lara are both interracial and interethnic: Clara has a Jamaican dialect while Archie, who is English, has a British dialect. You can tell the difference between their ethnicity in the book by the way they talk, especially Clara. Clara talks with her missing teeth and with a Jamaican accent by pronouncing the word tooth as toof, or instead of saying ‘the’ she will pronounce it ‘da. Social Media to Influence Recruitment Decisions-Free-Samples

Question: Discuss about the Social media to influence recruitment decisions. Answer: Social media to influence recruitment decisions. Social media recruiting has recently evolved as an extensively practiced form of recruiting within various organizations (Gibbs, MacDonald Mackay, 2015). The advent of social media through various platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is not unknown. These websites have provided people with a platform to turn themselves into a brand (Harris Rae, 2011). People can share their ideas, communicate with others, voice their opinion and discuss leading issues inflicting the world today. Every person has leveraged the platform as it deems necessary for them. The issue in this case is not rare. In the process of recruiting individuals, an access to their social media platforms provides the HR personnel with certain additional information that may or may not work in favour of the candidate (Kaur Sharma, 2015). But is it really ethical to gain access to an individuals personal life while deciding their professional career? Also, are the details shared by individuals on their social media platforms are really personal? The first option of seeking permission from candidates before visiting their social media platforms is surely an ethical move. However, there two risks posed in this process Firstly, either of the candidates have complete authority to deny the access. This would probably give the other candidates an unfair advantage. Secondly, there is a strong possibility that the candidates edit, hide or delete any details that they deem might affect their chances of selection. In which case, the entire picture would become unclear. The second option of viewing the information that is public without informing the candidates seems fair because every individual has an access to public information. However, there is no surety that the public information provided by the candidates on these platforms truly reflects on their professional life. Also the three candidates may not have public information to the same extent. It is likely that one candidates profile is entirely accessible while the other candidates profile has security access. Lastly, upon viewing the profile of either of these candidates, if the HR finds any mutual relationships, then it may affect the HRs decision which in turn may lead to a biased judgement (Caers Castelyns, 2011). Lastly, the option about not looking at the social media profile of either of the candidates leaves the organization at a disadvantage of not having any additional details about either of them. In the future if the selected candidates public profile reflects badly on the organization then it would be difficult to fix the issue. In my opinion social recruiting is surely gaining ground but a certain line has to be drawn. Every individual has a personal and a professional life and it may be unfair to judge anyone based on the other. Out of the many social media platforms that exist, LinkedIn has been built to enable and build professional relationships. An individuals updated LinkedIn profile is the closest to reflecting upon their professional life. The website also offers to demonstrate an individuals endorsements from their peers and seniors (Zide, Elman Shahani-Denning, 2014). These endorsements might be beneficial for the organization in evaluating attributes of individuals which suit the organizational culture. Once an employee is recruited in the business, it is essential to recommend the employees to maintain a decent public profile on all their social media platforms. This is specifically true for people who are hired at a senior position. Trainings on effectively managing social media profiles could also be provided by organizations to all their employees. However, it would be largely unfair to judge an individuals candidature based on anything that they share in their personal time and space. Therefore I recommend that the HR personnel must invite the candidates for a second round of interview or a psychometric test for better clarity on the issue. References Caers, R., Castelyns, V. Why should YOU be chosen for this scholarship? I am a charro that is basically like an American cowboy. I have inherited this from my dad and his dad. I am one of the few teenagers that I have seen participate here in Colorado. I ride bulls, mares, and do trick roping. I have only competed twice; we placed second both times out of four teams. The first time I competed my team was low on points. It was my turn to ride the bull and it wasn’t able to buck me off, after that I had to ride the mare which luckily did not buck. Finally I had to do what is called â€Å"El Paso De La Muerte† this is where I have to jump from my horse bare back to another horse while they are running and I did it. We will write a custom essay sample on Mapleton Education Foundation Scholarship or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This scored my team a lot of points and everyone was impressed. The second time I competed I broke my foot when I was getting ready to ride the bull which made me have to quit the team. I didn’t ever really join until I stopped hanging out with a group of gangsters which was at the end of the tenth grade. I knew that what I was doing was bad and that I had to stop because I was giving a bad example for my younger brothers and cousins. â€Å"What would you like to be when you grow up?† I have always been asked this question and it didn’t change until about four years ago. I always wanted to work in construction like my father, until I realized it’s not a fun job. The pay is fine but the work is tough. My father comes home eats a snack and waits for dinner to be ready. He tells me about how exhausted he gets after working more than 40 hours. After noticing that this is all he does I knew that I would never want to work his job. My plans changed and I didn’t know what I wanted to become. The day I heard about a construction manager, I knew that that was what I wanted to become and that college is what would get me there. This scholarship will help me get through college because if I get through one I will know that I can finish. If I had to start working right after high school and still go to college it would be extremely hard for me. My parents are divorced and I am living with father. It has been difficult on me because I am the second oldest and I have to watch the younger ones. My dad is living with my auntie, and my mom has her own place. They don’t have much money to help me with college. So I will be depending mostly on financial aid, scholarships and a part time job. I don’t want to get a lot of student loans because I hear that they put people in debt. That will give a good example for my younger brothers and sister and my family will be very proud of me. I should be chosen for this scholarship because I knowing that I have a greater chance at going to college I will take the opportunity to do something great with my life. I want to prove to my parents that I can go to collage and graduate from collage which is something that no one in my family has done. I am already on track by taking two college level classes while being a junior. I changed myself around from failing classes to passing them all and even getting accepted for the college classes. That’s why I think I should be chosen for this scholarship.
